Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:
I grew up seeing my mother treat her patients and their families with the utmost respect and passion. My father always supported her career. After my two brothers and I started going to school, my mother would try to balance her work and family life, until she gave in and instead worked very hard at home with all of us to make sure we followed our hearts to make successful careers. It was interesting that we all chose to attend the best medical school in Pakistan and ultimately my parents' wishes and hard work paid off. I was always very compassionate and hard working, finding meaning in helping others, at the same time excelling in academics. While spending time as a young student volunteer during my time off at various hospice facilities, orphanages, special Olympics and medical facilities, I was informed by the medical staff, patients, residents and families that I was personable and polite. In the end, I could not have ever thought of a career in any field other than medicine.
What I want my patients to know about me:
I like to treat everyone with respect and build relationships and trust in a way that can be helpful for patients and their families. I believe in the philosophy that we must collaborate with everyone and work as a team, in a way that we can achieve our common goal, which is to improve health and achieve a better quality of life. I am very passionate about educating medical professionals and excited to serve as a teaching faculty member with the department of family medicine at WellSpan Good Samaritan clinic sites and hospital.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
I have a big family, including my three small children and a wonderful wife, along with my loving parents, amazing brothers and their families. We like traveling, long drives, watching movies, staying active, trying different cuisines, praying and relaxation, and spending lots of time with each other. I love my work and stay busy, but I also love spending time with my family as much time as I get. I strongly believe in a work-life balance and strive to follow this as much as possible.
