Why I chose to pursue a career in medicine:
I have always enjoyed science and helping people. The healing arts are a very personal way to help others. My mother was a nurse and shared what she felt were limitations of that profession, so I set my sights on medical school. As a third year student I was drawn to OB/GYN for the balance of surgery and medicine it provided. I also enjoy the life long connections with my patients from puberty, through the reproductive years, to the menopause. There is nothing better than helping a new life into this world. It is always a miracle, and I feel blessed to be able to do this for a living.
What I want my patients to know about me:
I am dedicated to my patients and have a very holistic approach to medicine. I believe in treating my patient's the way i would want my family treated. I am a wife and a mother, and have experienced many of life's challenges, which I feel helps me to be a more compassionate physician. I am a very determined person and don't back away from a challenge, but i also know my limitations. I feel this is a quality that assists me in helping the more complex patient issues. I enjoy mentoring my partners and residents, and love to watch them grow in knowledge and confidence.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I enjoy traveling and exploring. My favorite outdoor activities are hiking and kayaking. My family lives coast-to-coast, so I treasure any time we can spend together. I can find new experiences anywhere and enjoy learning about people and places both near and far. I also enjoy volunteering with community groups.
