Why I chose to pursue a career in medicine:
I initially chose a career in nursing in order to help people in need because of illness. Becoming a nurse practitioner was inspired by a short-term mission trip to Zambia. The role of the nurse in the mission field includes diagnosing and treating illnesses and injuries. At that time, my husband and I were planning to serve in the mission field. In order to be prepared for this expanded role, I attended the University of Pennsylvania nurse practitioner program.
What I want my patients to know about me:
Parents of my pediatric patients are interested to know that I do have 6 children of my own. Often my conversations with parents include details gained over the course of raising my own children. My primary experience as a nurse practitioner has been working with pediatric patients and their parents.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
My husband and I enjoy hiking and ballroom dancing together. I also have participated in a singing group that has performed in a variety of venues in southcentral Pennsylvania. Another interest of mine is playing the string bass with the Hershey Symphony Orchestra. Going to the library to check out books as well as volunteering to shelve books is another interest.
