Why I chose to pursue a career in medicine:
Growing up I was able to witness the important work my mother does as a nurse practitioner, and quickly learned that I also wanted a rewarding career that involved helping others. As a Registered Nurse, the majority of my nursing background has been in critical care working in the ICU, and most recently I worked in the PACU where I recovered patients after surgery. As a Critical Care Nurse I realized that many of the illnesses my patients suffered from could have been avoided with preventative medicine. This continued to motivate me to become a Nurse Practitioner where I could educate my patients on the importance of preventative medicine, with my ultimate goal being to lessen their burden of chronic diseases and avoid acute illness.
What I want my patients to know about me:
I believe in treating my patients with the same care I would give my family member. I pride myself in being a great listener and I always work in collaboration with my patients to meet their own personal health care goals and needs. My favorite part about Primary Care is getting to know my patients and building a rapport with them.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
When I’m not working, I enjoy being active outdoors. In the Summer, my husband and I enjoy being out on the boat fishing and crabbing down on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
