Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:
Growing up in a farming family in Lancaster County, we were taught to work hard and treat others well. I decided at a young age that I wanted to be a doctor and care for others. During medical school I realized that as an obstetrician/gynecologist, I would have the privilege of caring for women during their childbearing years, and in the years that followed. I have been honored to work with my patients over the past 30 years, to know them and their families, and strive to give them excellent care.
What I want my patients to know about me:
I enjoy working with my patients in shared decision making, and strive to give them the best, most accurate information to help them in their health. My family and faith are very important to me. I have many interests outside of medicine, including cooking, gardening, traveling, and medical missions trips. I feel strongly that as care givers we need to learn to know our patients in some of their unique ways to help meet their individual needs.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
I love to spend time with my family and friends. I enjoy achieving a weed free flower and vegetable garden, even if it's just for 2 days. Camping, or sitting on a beach with a good book, are perfect ways to relax. Blueberry picking, canning and baking are just a few other tasks I enjoy. A trip to Roots Farmers Market in Lancaster County with a friend remains a favorite local trip.
