Why I chose to pursue a career in medicine:
Growing up I never imagined that I would be in the medical field. I always wanted to be a teacher and actually spend my first year of college pursuing an elementary education degree. One day I decided that I wanted to be a nurse and applied to Hanover Practical Nursing program. I guess you could say that I am still teaching, because a lot of what I do as a nurse practitioner is teach patients how to prevent or treat illness.
What I want my patients to know about me:
I started out my nursing career as a LPN and then worked my way up, one degree at a time. I always returned to school because there was always more to learn that would help me take better care of my patients.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
When I'm not working I like to spend time with my family and friends. I have three children who range in age from 3 to 15. They sure do keep us busy with all of their activities, but when we have free time we like to go camping and hiking.
