Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:
My career in medicine started with a passion for nursing. What first drew me to healthcare was my interest in the science behind all of the different ways the human body functions. It is just amazing what the body can do, and I was always eager to learn about it, and still am! A career in medicine means I will never stop learning new things, which is one of the reasons I fell in love with the field. On the other hand, what I appreciate specifically about nursing is the holistic approach to caring for patients. As they told us in nursing school, nursing is not just a science but an art. I feel the same about medicine. For example, there is a delicate art to diagnosing and treating medical illnesses as each patient is different in their own way. Every care plan must be artfully crafted to meet the needs of the patient.
What I want my patients to know about me:
First and foremost, I am a great listener. After all, who knows your body better than you? I specifically have a background in critical care nursing, but after seeing so many individuals suffer from complications due to chronic illnesses, I have become a strong advocate for preventative care, early treatment, and a focus on healthy goals. I believe in taking advantage of screening tests that the healthcare system has to offer and leading a healthy and active lifestyle. I also have special interest in managing diabetes and hypertension, which unfortunately is far too common.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
I enjoy spending time with my family when I can. I recently moved to the lovely state of Pennsylvania from North Carolina, so I am enjoying exploring the area. You may also catch me dressed in fan great gear at a Yankees or Rangers game. I am marrying a man who is a diehard New York fan. I, myself, am not much of a sports fan except when it comes to college basketball, I am a lifelong Duke fan and enjoy going to a basketball game at Cameron Stadium when possible. Some other things I enjoy are hiking, watching movies, traveling, trying out new restaurants and bowling.
