Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:
I grew up going to the hospital with my mother. She was a nurse and a matron (Director of nursing). I was always fascinated when her patients transformed from sick to happy and well. By high school, I had decided I wanted to be a medical doctor to help care for the sick like my mother. The direction of my studies remained unclear until my older sister had her first children - a set of twins via C-section. My mother was retired and I was in first year of medical school but we were allowed in the OR. At the sight of those helpless babies, I wanted to be a part of helping sick newborns.
What I want my patients to know about me:
I finished medical school and pediatric residency training before starting my practice as a pediatrician in Lagos, Nigeria. After marrying my husband, I emigrated to the USA where I repeated my pediatric residency training (as required), before going on to complete my fellowship training in neonatal-perinatal medicine. I love knowing that my patient's families understand what is happening with their loved one. I enjoy taking care of their baby and always hope for a good outcome. I also love a good joke.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
I enjoy playing with my family at home. I love to jog/cycle and go on road trips with my husband and child when we can. I also enjoy watching movies with good story lines (preferably documentaries or historic events).
