Why I chose to pursue a career in medicine:
Other than entertaining thoughts of becoming a nun and or a teacher for two minutes, I believe I was destined for the role of a midwife. While working for 13 years as an RN at Gettysburg Hospital Labor & Delivery, I truly fell in love with the process of labor and birth. Listening to and observing women in labor taught me not only what women want but how support, empowerment and just being there can enhance the birth of a baby and the growth of a family. I've found my niche in the career I was created to do! That's why I've been a midwife since 1986. The word midwife means "with woman".
What I want my patients to know about me:
I love my life, family and co-workers! I'm an Adams County native. My husband is very supportive of my career and crazy hours. I enjoy the special bond of really knowing patients and their families. I will care for you as if you are my family! The entire OB team I find professionally and personally enjoyable. My son is a successful local business owner of Outfitter, Inc., and his lovely wife is an OB RN. What a pleasure to work side by side with her in the labor room. One of my biggest joys was being asked to deliver my granddaughter and grandson.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
My husband and I enjoy ballroom dancing. We've traveled on a few cruises and look forward to many more. A movie and dinner is fun too. Spending time with family, especially my grandkids, keeps me busy. You may see me at their ball games or cheering on my son at a marathon. We often vacation together, especially to our favorite place, the beach. I have made five Medical Surgical Mission Trips, some with my husband and son. What a lesson on values and humanity. I cherish time spent with friends. I enjoy walking my two puppies, ChaCha & Tango.
