Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:
It has been in my nature to help people since I was a small child. After spending many years as a registered nurse in the Emergency Department and Labor & Delivery, I was ready for a new challenge in healthcare. Having this background has allowed me to quickly and efficiently assess and treat patients in an Urgent Care setting while having the ability to listen and remain a caring presence. Medicine and science are ever changing. This is what holds my interest. New treatments, revelations and discoveries keep me excited to continue learning and practicing with WellSpan.
What I want my patients to know about me:
I have been in medicine for over 13 years. Spending a majority of my time in a very busy Emergency Department. This allowed a great amount of critical thinking and a broad skill set. While the days were not always happy, there was a strong sense of teamwork and camaraderie. We all worked together for the common goal-healing the patient. I also spent some time in Labor and Delivery. This was a time to experience great joy with my patients and have the time to get to know the in's and out's of their lives while supporting them in one of the biggest events in life. I feel both of these places have contributed to my success as a provider. Quick thinking in the Urgent Care setting is required most of the day and having the ability to slow down and listen is often needed as well. There is rarely a time that I don't have a smile on my face and I believe this is due to the variety of patients I am able to see in this setting. I enjoy meeting new people daily.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
When I am not seeing patients, I am busy with my husband and children. I enjoy helping out at their school in the classroom and with the PTA. Managing a busy household and caring for patients can be a balancing act at times. My family and I enjoy traveling and this helps to level things in our house. We enjoy camping and spending time in nature. We all work hard/play hard and the break is needed! When I have time to sit down, I like to read whenever possible.
