A Positron emission tomography or PET scan is a test that uses a special type of camera and radioactive tracer to look at organs in the body. The radioactive substance is typically a form of glucose which is attracted to areas with high levels of chemical activity. These areas often correspond to where a disease is located and are picked up by the special camera.
