Medical oncologists diagnose and treat cancer with medicine such as chemotherapy, immunotherapies and hormones. They design your treatment plan and coordinate with other cancer specialists, such as radiation oncologists and surgeons.
Radiation oncologists use electromagnetic waves to precisely destroy cancer cells while preserving surrounding tissue. WellSpan radiation oncologists use the most sophisticated technology and techniques to effectively treat cancers.
Surgery plays an important role in cancer diagnosis and treatment. Surgically removing the tumor or cancerous cells might be the primary treatment or might be combined with chemotherapy or radiation.
Gynecologic oncologists are doctors who treat cancers of the cervix, uterus and ovaries. These cancers can be especially dangerous since many women do not have symptoms at early stages.
Proton therapy is useful in treating certain tumors. It delivers a high dose of radiation via proton energy to target cancer cells with pinpoint accuracy.
The experienced surgeons at WellSpan offer thoracic surgery to treat cancers of the lungs and esophagus.
WellSpan Rehabilitation offers comprehensive physical therapy, occupational therapy and other rehabilitation options for those undergoing cancer treatment.
A CT scan can be effective in detecting lung cancer early, when it is most treatable. If you are 55-77 years old and have a history of smoking, this test may be covered by your health plan.
Genetic counseling guides families who may be at risk for cancers that involve an inherited gene, such as breast, ovarian or colon cancer.
