Support Groups

  • Adams County Area Cancer Support Groups

    WellSpan Health, through the Adams Cancer Center and the York Cancer Center, offers many helpful support groups and individual support services for cancer patients and their families. We invite you to join us.

    The Adams Cancer Center offers patients access to ongoing support programs that include: Breast Health Awareness, Encore (YWCA of Gettysburg and Adams County), Reach to Recovery (American Cancer Society), Adams County Breast Cancer Coalition (Healthy Adams County), Prostate Health Awareness, Reducing Your Cancer Risk, and Caring for the Cancer Patient.

    Annual Cancer Survivor Day: Held the first Sunday in June, this celebration is for cancer patients and families. Call Michelle Shriner at the Adams Cancer Center at (717) 339-2657 for information.

    Annual Memorial Service: This service is held every January for families and friends of cancer patients who died throughout the previous year.  Call Pastoral Care at the Adams Cancer Center (717)339-2640 for more information.

    Bereavement Class: This eight-session class helps individuals deal with issues of loss and grief. Call the Adams Cancer Center at (717) 339-2640 for information.

    The Cancer Support Group: For any patient and family member dealing with cancer, this group meets at Gettysburg Presbyterian Church, 208 Baltimore St., the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m. in the church library. Enter church through Fellowship Hall, which if you are facing the church, can be accessed by walking up the driveway to the right of the church about 25 ft.     Encore Breast Cancer Support Group: Meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Gettysburg YWCA from 6:30 - 8 p.m. Call Deb Yocum at the YWCA at (717) 334-9171, ext. 124. for more information.

    Lymphedema Support Group
    Meets every Monday from 6-7:30 p.m. at the WellSpan Adams Health Center Conference Room 211.  Call Paula Chaplin at (717) 337-4407 for more information.

  • York County Area Cancer Support Groups

    Cancer Prayer Support Group: Support group with emotional and spiritual emphasis for cancer patients and their families. Meets every month at Christ's American Baptist Church, Spring Grove and at Dr. Marc Hirsch's office, 777 Cherry Tree Ct., Hanover. Contact Lynn Eib at (717) 633-5992 before attending.

    Coping With Chronic Cancer: Support group for cancer patients who are dealing with their cancer as a chronic or recurring condition. Please join us the third Wednesday of each month. Call Kathy Allen at the York Cancer Center at (717) 741-8100 for more information.

    Hanover Area Breast Cancer Support Group: Support group for breast cancer patients, meets third Monday of each month at LifeChanges Boutique, 400 York St. Hanover, PA. Contact Diana Klunk at (717) 633-1111 before attending.

    Hearts Can Heal: An eight-session class for grieving children held at Olivia's House as needed. For more information, please call Olivia's House at (717) 699-1133.

    HOPE Support Group (Help for Oncology Problems & Emotional Support): Support and educational group organized for southern York County. The focus of each support meeting will be on cancer education and the emotional needs of patients and families. The group meets the second Wednesday of every month.     Kids Under Construction: Support group for children who have loved ones with cancer. Call Barbara Titanish at (717) 227-2824 or the York Cancer Center at (717) 741-8100 for more information.

    Leukemia & Lymphoma Support: Family support group program for patients and families who would like to meet others coping with leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma or Hodgkin's Disease. For more information about is group program, please contact The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America at (717) 652-6520 (Hershey).

    Look Good, Feel Better: Sessions with area cosmetologists for assistance with make up and hair styling. For dates, call the American Cancer Society office at (800) 227-2345.

    Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Support Network: Support and educational group for oral and head & neck and laryngectomy cancer patients. Meets the second Wednesday of every month. Call the York Cancer Center at (717) 741-8100 or (717) 851-2601 for more information.

    Prescription for Living: This series of classes focuses on life after breast cancer treatment. It provides information and support for survivors focusing on healthy nutrition, stress reduction, physical activity and specific survivor information. The series is offered twice a year (Spring & Fall) at the York Cancer Center, (717) 741-8100, and the Adams Cancer Center, (717) 339-2640.

    Reach to Recovery: One-on-one support matches a breast cancer survivor with a newly diagnosed breast cancer patient. For more information, call the American Cancer Society at (800) 227-2345.

    White Rose Bereavement: A support group for family members who have lost a loved one. The group meets the third Thursday of each month from  6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Memorial Hospital Home Health Services Building, 1412 6th Ave., York (entrance in rear - Graham Building).     Young Survival Coalition Face 2 Face Support: This group is for women 45 years and younger with breast cancer. The group meets every other Wednesday night from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Children's Art Room at The Jewish Community Center, 2000 Hollywood Dr, York. Call ahead at 741-8455 or just show up. Nurse are welcome to observe.

About the provider search
