Sleep Medicine

Here to Help You Rest Easy Every Night

Sleep is a necessity in life. For many however, it is not as refreshing as it should be. If you spend your nights tossing and turning, have trouble sleeping or feel exhausted throughout the day, WellSpan Sleep Medicine is here to help. Our experts treat many different sleep-based issues to help you achieve a good night’s rest.

We will diagnose and evaluate your sleep disorder with the latest technology that analyzes both neurological and respiratory problems. After diagnosis we will work with you and create a treatment plan that fits into your schedule. This may include lifestyle changes, creating good sleep habits, using a CPAP machine, a dental appliance or medication.

If you wake up several times per night, feel groggy all day, have severe snoring issues or experience sleep paralysis and getting a healthy 7-8 hours of sleep each night has not helped relieve any of your symptoms. We suggest making an appointment with our Sleep Medicine team for a full diagnosis. Our Sleep Centers conveniently service patients in Adams, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon and York counties, diagnosing and treating a broad range of sleep disorders, including sleep apnea and narcolepsy.

Philips has issued a voluntary recall on certain CPAP, BiPAP, and mechanical ventilators.

How We Can Help

WellSpan Sleep Medicine physicians are completely focused on helping you restore your sleep cycle and alleviate any health problems. Treatment may include:

At Home Sleep Tests

At WellSpan we make having a sleep study easy, and in the comfort of your own home and bed.

Our new WatchPAT™ program allows you to have the testing device shipped directly to and from your home. With our support team ready to answer your questions 24/7, your test will be easy to do and have accurate results.

The at-home test is appropriate for most patients in diagnosing obstructive sleep apnea. Your doctor can help you decide if the home test or sleep-center test is right for you.

Sleep Studies

We have 2 options for sleep studies, your provider will help you decide which is best for you.

  1. In-lab sleep studies are done by placing small electrodes on the surface of the scalp, face and legs our team will record your sleep patterns. The procedure is completely safe and painless, even better, you get to sleep through it! Highly trained technologists will monitor airflow, body movements, heart rate and blood oxygen saturation. After the study is complete your physician will interpret the results and create a treatment plan.
  2. Home sleep tests are done at home. We can ship the device to your house, you wear the device like a wristwatch for 1 night and return the device the next day in the mail. Instructions are reviewed both verbally and in written format. Our WellSpan sleep physicians will interpret the results and create a treatment plan.

CPAP Management

Continuous positive airway pressure therapy (CPAP) uses a machine to help alleviate problems associated with obstructive sleep apnea. Our physician’s will determine if a CPAP machine is necessary and what the best style is for you. They will then monitor its effectiveness and make changes if needed.

Medication Therapy

Occasionally medication may be available for patients with sleep disorders. As there are typically many side effects with medication these solutions can be limited. Your physician will cover all the risks if a medication is right for you.

Dental Appliances

Our board certified dentist can create an appliance you wear at night while sleeping. For some patients it can alleviate their sleep apnea without use of CPAP.

Insomnia Clinic

Patients suffering from insomnia can attend our insomnia clinic where strategies surrounding your sleep habits are explored. Using techniques that include changing attitudes and beliefs about sleep(cognitive therapy), relaxation training, sleep hygiene and more our providers can recommend a plan and monitor your progress as you strive for a good night’s sleep.
