At WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital we strive for the highest level of quality in every aspect of patient care. We are proud to be recognized by the following organizations for our commitment and achievements.
Founded in 1966 as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities and now known as CARF International, the accrediting body establishes consumer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of their programs and services. CARF accreditation is considered the gold standard for rehabilitation hospitals and demonstrates that a facility meets rigorous national and international standards for quality patient care outcomes. WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital was accredited in the fall of 2012 – the year the hospital opened – and re-accredited in 2015.
In 2016 WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital became the first hospital in Southcentral Pennsylvania – and one of only 10 in the state – to be awarded a prestigious three-year specialty accreditation from CARF International for inpatient brain injury rehabilitation. In 2017 the hospital was awarded a specialty accreditation from CARF International for our inpatient stroke program. Our goal for 2018 is to pursue CARF specialty accreditation for our inpatient spinal cord injury and amputation rehabilitation programs.
These accreditations represent the highest level that can be awarded by CARF to an organization and are marks of excellence for programs’ quality of care.
WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital received a three-year accreditation from DNV-GL in 2017. The hospital is one of only five in Pennsylvania to achieve DNV-GL accreditation. DNV-GL is the only accreditor of United States hospitals integrating the ISO 9001 Quality Management System with the Medicare Conditions of Participation. As part of accreditation, DNV-GL requires compliance with all ISO 9001 standards.
In 2018, WSRH received ISO 9001 certification.
The Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award for outstanding performance in patient experience honors top-performing health care organizations that have consistently achieved the 95th percentile or above in performance. Press Ganey helps health care organization clients improve numerous performance measures, including patient experience. WSRH is one of just a handful of hospitals in Pennsylvania to receive the award.
By sustaining this performance for two consecutive years, in 2017 WSRH received the Pinnacle of Excellence Award.
WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital was named one of the top 51 hospitals in the country with the fastest patient aid and top nurse-patient communication by Becker’s Hospital Review. Becker’s also listed the hospital among its “Top 5 Pennsylvania hospitals patients would definitely recommend.”
