WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital has been recognized for delivering high-quality, effective and cost-efficient specialty care by Blue Cross Blue Shield. Meeting specific quality standards has provided the hospital with the opportunity to become a Blue Distinction Center+ for Maternity Care and Cardiac Care.


Get With The Guidelines

WellSpan Good Samaritan Community Hospital has achieved the following from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association’s Get with the Guidelines (GWTG) awards:

  • Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement award
  • Heart Failure Gold Plus Quality Achievement award
  • Special recognition on the Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite

The GWTG awards recognize the hospital meeting specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke and heart-care-related patients.


Joint Commission Accreditation

Certification from the Joint Commission signifies an organization’s dedication to fostering better outcomes for patients. WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital has demonstrated that several programs meet the critical elements of performance to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes. The hospital has achieved accreditation as well as advanced certification for Heart Failure and Primary Stroke Center.


Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers

Certification signifies an organization’s dedication to fostering better outcomes for patients. Good Samaritan’s Primary Stroke Center Certification has demonstrated that their program meets critical elements of performance to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes for stroke patients.


QOPI Certification for Cancer Care

Good Samaritan Oncology & Hematology Associates has been recognized by the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) Certification Program, an affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). The QOPI Certification Program provides a three-year certification for outpatient hematology-oncology practices that meet the highest standards for quality cancer care.


Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs Certification

Good Samaritan’s Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation programs have been certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). This certification recognizes Good Samaritan’s commitment to improving the quality of life for patients by enhancing standards of care in these rehabilitation programs. Good Samaritan is one of only a few health systems in Central Pennsylvania to offer both cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs certified by AACVPR.


Breastfeeding Support Designations

WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital has been designated a Baby-Friendly Facility by Baby-Friendly USA. Baby-Friendly designated facilities uphold and implement the ten steps to successful breastfeeding, follow the international code of breast-milk substitutes and generate widespread understanding for the best practice infant feeding care. In addition, the hospital has achieved the Keystone 10 designation which indicates a focus on breastfeeding initiation, exclusive breastfeeding, skin-to-skin contact and rooming-in.
