5/2016 - Highmark Blue Shield has designated WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital as a Blue Distinction Center+ for its work in delivering cardiac care. To receive a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care designation, hospitals must demonstrate expertise in delivering safe and effective cardiac care, focusing on cardiac valve surgery, coronary artery bypass graft, and percutaneous coronary interventions. A hospital must also have earned national accreditation at the facility level.
5/2016 - Highmark Blue Shield has designated WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital as a Blue Distinction Center+ for its work in delivering maternity care. Hospitals that received a Blue Distinction Center for Maternity Care designation must be nationally accredited and meet requirements that align with principles that support evidence-based practices of care.
4/2016 - The Good Samaritan Hospital has received the Get With The Guidelines – Heart Failure Gold-Plus Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology Foundation’s secondary prevention guidelines for patients with heart failure.
2015 - WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital has received the American Heart Association Great Rivers Affiliate Corporate Leadership Award. The hospital was selected by the regional volunteer Leadership Development Committee based on extensive multi-pronged collaboration with AHA that promotes heart health with stakeholders and beyond. Key factors include achievement as repeat GWTG Gold Award Recipient, promotion of stroke awareness campaign via Lebanon Heart Walk, Go Red for Women, "Love Your Heart Lecture Series," leadership on AHA Board and committee participation by employees in AHA fundraising events.
2015 - WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital was recognized for Fastest tPA Administration in the LionNet Network, which consists of 12 hospitals. The goal of Door to Needle time is 60 minutes or less; this was achieved in 23 minutes. The goal was achieved using a team approach to stroke care and quick recognition of clinical symptoms that met tPA requirements by Dr. Scott Larson.
5/15/2015 - WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital recently received the LionNet "fastest door to needle" award at the annual LionNet stroke conference at PSHMC. There are currently 14 hospitals in the network participating in Telestroke with PSHMC. Care was provided to the patient by Dr. Gajewski in the Emergency Department. Door to Needle time was 41 minutes, well under the benchmark of 60 minutes because of his proactive decision making and collaboration with Dr. Reichwein.
2015 - Good Samaritan Health System has received HAP’s Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) Prevention Project Excellence Award in recognition of outstanding performance and participation in the Pennsylvania Hospital Engagement Network (HEN) and the Partnership for Patients Program. HEN Project goals include 40 percent reduction of preventable VTEs. Ninety-five percent of participating hospitals will implement a house-wide risk assessment. WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital had zero preventable VTEs for 12 consecutive months and has a house-wide risk assessment program.
2015 - WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital has won a Silver Level 2014 VHA Mid-Atlantic APEX (Achieving Patient Care Excellence) Award for demonstrating extraordinary levels of patient safety and clinical performance. Our staff met VAP prevention goals by decreasing ventilator associated pneumonia (iVAC) events to zero in critical care units for a consecutive 12-month period and patient falls prevention goals by having a low rate of falls in the top decile of all VHA Mid-Atlantic members for 12 months.
12/2015- WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital received full Chest Pain Center with PCI Accreditation with PCI from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC). An Accredited Chest Pain Center’s evidence-based, protocol-driven and systematic approach to cardiac patient care allows clinicians to reduce time to treatment during the critical early stages of a heart attack. Chest pain centers better monitor patients when it is not clear whether or not a patient is having a coronary event. Such monitoring ensures patients are neither sent home too early nor needlessly admitted.
10/7/2015 - The Good Samaritan Hospital has received the American Heart Association/American Association’s Get With The Guidelines - Stroke Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment and success in ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.
2015 - Good Samaritan Pediatrics and Good Samaritan West Cornwall Family Practice were awarded the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Patient Centered Medical Home Level 2 Certification. The Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model of primary care combines teamwork and information technology to improve care, improve patients’ experience and reduce costs. Medical homes foster ongoing partnerships between patients and their personal clinician led care teams that coordinate treatment across the health care system.
2015 - WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital earned a “Safety Across the Board” Excellence Award from the Pennsylvania Hospital Engagement Network. The award recognizes achievement of exceptional performance with Partnership for Patients Program goals of reducing preventable harm and readmissions. WellSpan Good Samaritan was recognized in the areas of action planning and data submission for VTE (blood clot) prevention and treatment measures.
12/2/2014 - Lebanon, PA – The Good Samaritan Hospital has been recognized as a 2013 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the United States. Good Samaritan was recognized as part of The Joint Commission’s 2014 annual report “America’s Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety,” for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance for Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Pneumonia and Surgical Care. Good Samaritan is one of 1,224 hospitals in the United States to achieve the 2013 Top Performer distinction.
11/3/2014 - The Security 500 Benchmarking Survey is based on information from data supplied directly by participating enterprises and data obtained through public resources/records. The Security 500 tracks 18 vertical markets and collects unique data where appropriate (such as the number of unique facilities in healthcare) and applies this data to key metrics. The 500 enterprises and security leaders listed in the report are among the biggest and best security organizations in the world. All of them have been included in the 2014 Security 500 Report based on security metrics for their individual sectors.
9/2/2014 - Certification signifies an organization’s dedication to fostering better outcomes for patients. Good Samaritan’s Primary Stroke Center Certification has demonstrated that their program meets critical elements of performance to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes for stroke patients.
6/20/2014 - GSH Outpatient Surgery Center is one of more than 450 endoscopy units to be granted the recognition since 2009. The ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program honors endoscopy units that have demonstrated a commitment to patient safety and quality in endoscopy as evidenced by meeting the program’s rigorous criteria, which includes following the ASGE guidelines on privileging, quality assurance, endoscope reprocessing, CDC infection control guidelines and ensuring endoscopy staff competency.
11/13/2013 - The Good Samaritan Hospital has been chosen to receive an Excellence in Patient Care award given by outcomes firm Studer Group. Studer Group gives its Excellence in Patient Care awards to select partners based on various categories. The Good Samaritan Hospital was selected based on the amount their Core Measures scores increased from 3rd quarter of 2010-2nd quarter 2011 to 3rd quarter 2011-2nd quarter 2012. The difference in each Core Measure was taken and The Good Samaritan Hospital had one of the largest positive improvements, distinguishing them as "most improved" from a database of over 850 organizations coached by Studer Group.
6/27/2013 - Good Samaritan Oncology & Hematology Associates has been recognized by the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) Certification Program, an affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). The QOPI Certification Program provides a three-year certification for outpatient hematology-oncology practices that meet the highest standards for quality cancer care.
Good Samaritan’s Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation programs have been certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). This certification recognizes Good Samaritan’s commitment to improving the quality of life for patients by enhancing standards of care in these rehabilitation programs. Good Samaritan is one of only a few health systems in Central Pennsylvania to offer both cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs certified by AACVPR.
