Hospital is the only one in central Pennsylvania to earn all five accreditations

WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital today announced that it has achieved a rare milestone, earning three-year accreditations by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for all five of its adult rehabilitation programs.

The achievement makes the York County hospital one of only four in Pennsylvania to earn all five accreditations, and the only hospital in central Pennsylvania with that distinction. CARF accreditation is widely considered the gold standard for rehabilitation hospitals.

WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital has achieved three-year accreditations in each of the following five adult rehabilitation programs:

  • Amputation Specialty
  • Brain Injury Specialty
  • Inpatient Rehabilitation
  • Spinal Cord Specialty
  • Stroke Specialty

The hospital had already been issued CARF accreditations for its stroke, brain injury and inpatient rehabilitation adult programs. With this round of accreditations, all five adult rehabilitation programs are now CARF accredited through Nov. 30, 2021.

“These accreditations are a testament to the highly specialized care our clinical teams provide every day for our patients – many of whom have complex medical conditions and significant functional deficits,” said Barbara Yarrish, senior vice president, WellSpan Health, and president, WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital. “We’re proud of this achievement and equally proud to provide truly exceptional care to our friends and neighbors here in York County.”

These accreditations represent the highest level that can be awarded by CARF to an organization and are marks of excellence for programs’ quality of care.

WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital opened in 2012 and has since been honored with numerous awards and accreditations. The state-of-the-art facility offers advanced orthopedic, spine and neurological surgery procedures, as well as both inpatient and specialized outpatient rehabilitation services.
