WellSpan Health is proud to announce that Megan Lecas, senior vice president for service lines, was recognized by Modern Healthcare as one of this year's Top 25 Innovators. The complete ranking is featured in the August 24 issue of Modern Healthcare magazine.
This year's Top 25 Innovators championed scalable solutions that are being used to reshape the industry in big and small ways. While many of this year's honorees pushed solutions that directly address the coronavirus pandemic, their innovations and approaches to problem solving will be useful long after the crisis is over.
"While healthcare always looks for ways to transform, 2020 required more nimble, innovative adaptations than ever before. As communities hunkered down, providers and other industry members quickly found new ways to care for their patients, and they couldn't be afraid to try something new. This year's Top 25 Innovators exemplify the best of those transformations," said Aurora Aguilar, editor of Modern Healthcare. "They put quality first and still looked for ways to improve their work during uncertain times. We congratulate the class of 2020."
WellSpan's President and CEO, Roxanna Gapstur, Ph.D., RN, said Lecas, who oversees the Women and Children's Service line, has been an inspirational innovator through her creation of consumer-centric solutions.
"Over the past two years, she has led a creative team to develop women-specific digital access for three separate audiences. These digital options have transformed the way women's health care is provided at WellSpan," explained Gapstur. "Megan truly lives out the WellSpan value of 'finding a better way,' and we are so proud her contributions are earning the recognition they so deserve."
According to Gapstur, Lecas helped to create MadelineRx, an online service for birth control prescriptions. This connection creates new access points for younger women who don't have regular primary care and allows for additional assessments if needed.
Lecas is also credited for helping to identify a need for, based on consumer and patient feedback, and then implement Babyscripts — a digital connection to the obstetrician's office which replaces up to four prenatal visits. This application is available to low-risk patients who submit blood pressure and weight results to their care team. The app is available in English and Spanish and includes educational materials for each month of pregnancy.
Her work also led to the creation of Bow & Button — a vlog series connected to a webstore allowing mothers to shop for needed infant or mom items with a seal of approval from their own providers. Often new moms are not sure what to purchase without their care team's approval. This new way of virtual shopping connected to their care team allows peace of mind and approved, safe items for the mom and newborn.
Lecas has more than two decades of experience in health care leadership and has served as vice president of the Women’s and Children’s Service Line for WellSpan Health since 2016. On May 18 her role was expanded to Senior Vice President.
Prior to her appointment to vice president at WellSpan, Megan was vice president for women's services at Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh. She also previously served as chief operating officer and vice president of the WellSpan Medical Group. She first joined WellSpan in 2004 as a specialty practice administrator. Prior to joining WellSpan, she held physician practice leadership roles in Somerset and Johnstown. Megan earned her bachelor's degree and Master of Business Administration degree from Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pa. She also earned a Green Belt for Healthcare from Villanova University.
