American Heart Association/American Stroke Association recognizes four WellSpan Hospitals

WellSpan Health's acute-care hospitals recently received a combined total of eight American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Get With The Guidelines® (GWTG) awards. The awards recognize the hospitals’ achievements in stroke and heart-related care.

“This recognition reaffirms our commitment to providing exceptional patient-centered care at every WellSpan hospital,” said Julie Miksit, vice president of heart and vascular services, WellSpan Health.

Get With The Guidelines offers quality-improvement measures, discharge protocols, standing orders and other measurement tools that make it easier to follow treatment guidelines that can help save lives and ultimately reduce overall healthcare costs by lowering readmission rates for patients with stroke and heart-related needs.

“We are pleased to recognize WellSpan Health for their commitment to stroke and heart-related care,” said Paul Heidenreich, M.D., national chairman of the Get With The Guidelines Steering Committee and Professor of Medicine at Stanford University. “Research has shown there are benefits to patients who are treated at hospitals that have adopted the Get With The Guidelines program. Get With the Guidelines research has demonstrated the impact of lowering 30-day readmissions and reducing mortality rates.”

The eight Get With the Guidelines awards were received by the following hospitals:

WellSpan York Hospital
• GWTG Resuscitation – Gold Quality Achievement award
• GWTG Stroke – Gold Plus award and recognized as Target Stroke Elite
• GWTG-Atrial Fibrillation- Bronze award

WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital
