80,000-square-foot facility offers advanced specialty care, surgical suites, lab and imaging services all under one roof
WellSpan Health leaders joined with local community leaders Friday to cut the ribbon on the WellSpan Health and Surgery Center – the health system’s largest and most comprehensive health care facility in the greater Hanover area.
“As the leading provider of advanced specialty care in this community, we feel a deep sense of responsibility to ensure our neighbors here in Hanover have convenient access to the care they need for themselves and their families – close to where they live,” said Roxanna Gapstur, Ph.D., R.N., president and CEO, WellSpan Health.
“WellSpan has been caring for Hanover for nearly 140 years and it is home to roughly 1,000 WellSpan employees,” said Vicky Diamond, vice president of ancillary services, WellSpan Health. “At WellSpan we strive to simplify health care to make it accessible to all. Having an integrated health and surgery center like this means that our neighbors here in the Hanover area can stay in their community to access the care they need.”
The two-story, 80,000-square-foot facility cost $52 million to build and features outpatient surgery services, lab and imaging services, a host of specialty care services and primary care.
The first floor of the center will house 13 advanced specialty and primary care services, including nephrology, gastroenterology, OB/GYN, interventional pain specialists, and family medicine.
Features on the second floor include four state-of-the-art operating rooms, 4K imaging technology that displays on multiple monitors simultaneously, 3D mammography that can detect cancer months earlier than other technology and – coming soon – an MRI unit that will offer unrivaled imaging technology in this area.
With these new operating suites, Hanover area residents now have access to the latest surgical technology, with procedures performed by some of the same expert WellSpan specialists who’ve been serving the community for decades – including the respected surgeons of WellSpan Orthopedics in Hanover.
“As impressive as this center is, we know that buildings and technology are only tools for providing care,” explained Gapstur. “The dedicated and highly-skilled physicians, clinicians and care team members who will provide care inside these walls are truly our greatest resource.”
A total of 120 employees are expected to work at the WellSpan Health and Surgery Center with roughly half of them being new WellSpan employees. The highly-skilled team includes physicians, advanced practice clinicians, registered nurses, surgical technicians, imaging technologists, central sterile processing technicians, phlebotomists and imaging technologists, among others.
Since the facility will be a resource for the greater Hanover community, it includes convenient amenities from area businesses and organizations. A new café will be operated by Hanover’s own Three Arrows Coffee. In addition, the center includes a community room with rotating art exhibits from local artists.
The WellSpan Health and Surgery Center opens to the public on Monday, March 4.
