Carrie Willetts, senior vice president of WellSpan Health, is the 2020 winner of the ATHENA award from the Lancaster Chamber.

The ATHENA award is a national recognition that celebrates the potential of all women as valued members and community leaders. The award honors women who have strived toward the highest levels of accomplishment by excelling in their chosen field, devoting time and energy to their community in a meaningful way, and actively assisting women in their achievement of professional excellence and leadership skills.

"We are honored to celebrate Carrie Willetts and give her this year's ATHENA Award at our 148th Lancaster Chamber Annual Dinner Virtual Experience," said Tom Baldrige, president and CEO of the Lancaster Chamber. "Carrie has consistently shown an intentional investment in our business community and beyond, and her dedication to making a positive impact, along with mentoring others, is worth special recognition."

When chamber and WellSpan officials surprised her with the news that she had won the award, Carrie demonstrated why she was chosen. She told her staff, who gathered to cheer and recognize her, that her purpose, the reason she leads, is to help others reach their full potential.

"That's what brings me joy," she said, and then turned the attention to her team and thanked them for the work they have during the COVID-19 pandemic to care for patients.

In the community, Carrie serves on the boards of the Lancaster Chamber, Hospice & Community Care and Ephrata Area Education Foundation.?

"Carrie lives our WellSpan values to find a better way and show respect for all," said Roxanna Gapstur, Ph.D., R.N., president and CEO of WellSpan Health. "She exemplifies the very best of WellSpan women who are recognized for outstanding leadership, and she takes to heart the importance of mentorship to support the next generation of rising leaders. We are so proud of Carrie’s recognition and grateful she shares her talents with WellSpan to reimagine healthcare and inspire health for our friends and neighbors."
