Michael Muldrow: 46, York City Police Commissioner.
Why I chose to get the vaccine: “I want to protect my health. As a black man with asthma, I want to show that if I’m willing to do it and believe that it’s safe, that anybody can. I wanted to do it for the people that I know in my circle, my officers that work for me, my family that might be hesitant or anybody in our community that may be hesitant. I’m willing to roll up my sleeve and show people that it’s OK.”
What I am looking forward to: “Man, I literally was not able to kiss my mom in a year. I am happy to report that my parents also got vaccinated by WellSpan and we were recently able to share an awesome ‘maskless’ moment together. I am also looking forward to things getting back to normal and feeling comfortable eating out, inside a restaurant.”
What I would say to someone who has not yet gotten vaccinated: “In my own community, in the black community, I understand the hesitance that people have with respect to vaccines, given the history and different things that have occurred throughout time. I understand their hesitance. I understand their fear. Given all of the life that we have lost in the past year, trying to duck the coronavirus, trying to survive the COVID era, now that the medical community has been able to come up with a vaccine, we have to jump on the opportunity so we can all get back to living again.”
