What made you want to serve this historic vaccination campaign?
I wanted to be a contributing member of the WellSpan team to help end this pandemic. I watched for many months while all the amazing clinical staff pushed through this pandemic tirelessly, and this was my way to contribute and give back. When the opportunity came up for non-clinical roles to help, the choice was easy for me. Selfishly, making people happy was in turn making me feel good. I didn’t know how much I truly needed to see all the smiles on the faces of my coworkers and those in our community while they arrived for their shot of hope, and it quickly became addicting for me. It didn’t take long before I knew I had made the right choice.
What was the most memorable part of your experience?
For me it was seeing all the smiling faces and knowing that what we were doing was making people happy and giving them new hope. I made new WellSpan friends by working with people that I likely otherwise would not have had the opportunity to meet. Ironically, we don’t talk about COVID in the vaccination PODs. It wasn’t the topic of conversation like it had been for many months prior. We talk about the future and what we are going to do with our lives when the pandemic finally ends. When we started inviting community healthcare partners and patients the atmosphere only got better. It felt like we were helping people lift their spirits by sharing our hope for a better future. Everyone expressed such gratitude and appreciation for WellSpan giving them this opportunity. I am thankful I had the opportunity to be part of the vaccine efforts in the PODs to help our community.
