A Shot of Hope - Jason's Story

Jason Foor: Registered nurse

What he sees every day: “It’s terrible what everybody is going through. People are sick and people are dying. We try and help them with oxygen, pressure support, but in some instances, it’s not enough. People are dying. It’s everything. It’s so overwhelming, it’s not just one person, it’s the whole entity of being in the healthcare field right now. There’s not one person that really jumps out, it’s the overwhelming number of total people who are sick.”

What has changed with COVID-19: “The face-to-face interaction is difficult not to have. The most things that have changed are the garb. We have to wear our PPE; how we approach each patient. We have to plan each patient as being COVID positive until they are ruled out. We try and give everybody the best care, but there might be a couple minute delay getting in the room because we have to garb, gown, put on our PPE, just taking extra time.”

What the vaccine means for everybody and for me: “The COVID-19 vaccine will give your body antibodies to fight off the virus. With the vaccine, we will get back to normal life, we will be able to see our friends, we will be able to go to restaurants, we will be able to travel. I get to travel, I get to hang out with friends, I get to enjoy other people.

What do you say to those who are skeptical of the vaccine: I was skeptical at first, I did some research, reliable research, and it’s what’s best for the population. There are side effects to every medicine, every drug, every vaccine, but the benefits outweigh the risks. I am going to get the vaccine (for) the safety of the population, the decrease of people dying, secondary to COVID- 19, the increase in health overall. Get the vaccine, wear the mask and social distance to help prevent the spread.”
