WellSpan again tops among health systems across U.S. on ‘Training Top 125’

Coming in at No. 22 overall nationwide, WellSpan Health recognized for the quality of its training initiatives

WellSpan Health has been ranked 22nd among all companies and organizations across the United States in this year's "Training Top 125" list by Training Magazine

In its strong showing on the list, WellSpan also once again achieved the highest ranking of any health system in the country for the quality of its employee training initiatives. This is the seventh year that WellSpan has been recognized on the Top 125 listing.

“While this is a wonderful recognition of the efforts of our training staff, it is truly a designation for the entire organization, recognizing WellSpan’s commitment to developing employees through training and education,” said Diane Sargeant, senior director, Organizational Learning and Development, WellSpan Health.

The Top 125 awards are annual designations assessing qualitative and quantitative factors such as an organization’s investment in employee development, the scope of development programs and how closely the development efforts are linked to business goals and objectives.

WellSpan’s high ranking on the list is an accomplishment, but the primary reason for undertaking the application process each year is because it provides a way to benchmark how the organization is doing relative to others across the country, she said.

One area of the evaluation where WellSpan performed exceptionally well was in how the health system links learning opportunities to achieving organizational goals, Sargeant said.

“That is particularly important because that’s why we exist – to support our staff members in providing outstanding patient care to our communities,” she said.

Another related area is how the health system tracks results of training beyond simply surveying participants after training, Sargeant said.

For example, as WellSpan invests in patient experience training, the organization is carefully monitoring feedback received from patients themselves, she said.

“So not only is there evaluation of the class, but we are watching how we are doing as an organization in those areas we are training on,” Sargeant said.

How WellSpan uses metrics and evaluates its training earned the health system a perfect score in that part of the application process, and the organization also scored well on the best practices examples submitted as part of the application.

Training Magazine specifically highlighted WellSpan’s “No Pass Zone” training as an example of the organization's initiatives.
