Professional Development Opportunities

WellSpan Health encourages life-long learning for our clinical professionals. We offer a variety of ongoing continuing education and leadership development opportunities covering the span of your career from novice to expert. We offer full financial support for nurses with associate's or diploma degrees who wish to pursue BSN education and support for graduate education toward nurse practitioner degrees and other advanced practice roles. We also offer computer-based and onsite continuing education programs including basic and advanced cardiac life support training as well as various clinical topics. Nurses are encouraged to obtain their specialty certification because it leads to improved patient outcomes and we provide a variety of reimbursement and pre-payment programs. As you advance in your nursing profession, we offer a variety of advanced-practice and leadership development programs.  


Clinical Ladder

The focus of our clinical ladder program is to advance professional nursing practice at WellSpan Health and to continue to raise the standard of clinical excellence for nurses at the bedside. Our generous Clinical Nurse Advancement Program provides the registered nurse the opportunity for professional and clinical growth in nursing practice, above and beyond day to day nursing activities and recognizes nurses for their contributions to excellent clinical outcomes and professionalism.


Shared Decision Making

Evidence-based decisions that affect nursing practice and the nursing work environment across the system are made collaboratively within a shared leadership and interprofessional environment. The WellSpan System Nursing Integration Council, Nursing Practice and Quality Council, Nursing Leadership Council, Nursing Research and Innovation Council, Nursing Professional Development Council and an Electronic Health Record Clinical Council are comprised of clinical nurses and nurse leaders from all entities, working together as one to ensure the highest level of nursing practice and care delivery excellence. Interprofessional shared decision making, evidence-based practice, and lean methodologies are utilized at all levels to aid in continuous improvement and problem solving. Opportunities for involvement in shared decision making are also available at the entity and unit level.
