Peanut Allergenic Extract Oral Powder (PEANUT ALLERGEN POWDER - ORAL)

Instructions

Do not swallow the capsule whole.

Open the capsule and sprinkle the contents on a few spoonfuls of cold or room-temperature soft food (such as applesauce, yogurt, pudding). Mix well and eat the mixture right away.

Do not mix the medicine with liquids.

Keep the medicine in its original container.

Take the medicine with a meal.

This medicine will work best if you take it at about the same time every day.

Store at room temperature or in refrigerator. Do not freeze. Protect from light.

The first dose will be given by health care provider who will monitor for a severe allergic reaction. Later doses may be given by a health care provider or at home.

It may take several weeks for this medicine to fully work.

It is important that you keep taking each dose of this medicine on time even if you are feeling well.

If you forget to take a dose on time, take it as soon as you remember. If you don't remember until the next day, do not take the missed dose. Return to your normal dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses of this medicine at one time.

Drug interactions can change how medicines work or increase risk for side effects. Tell your health care providers about all medicines taken. Include prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal medicines. Speak with your doctor or pharmacist before starting or stopping any medicine.

Tell your doctor if symptoms do not get better or if they get worse.

Exercising or taking a hot shower or bath may increase your risk for an allergic reaction to this medicine. If you have just exercised or taken a hot shower or bath, you should wait until your body is cool and your heart is beating normally before using this medicine. Do not exercise or take a hot shower or bath for at least 3 hours after taking this medicine.

Your doctor may prescribe other medications to reduce side effects. Follow instructions carefully.

Keep all appointments for medical exams and tests while on this medicine.

Always wash your hands after handling this medicine.

Avoid breathing in the medicine.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you ever had an allergic reaction to a medicine.

Do not use the medication any more than instructed.

It is unknown if this medicine passes into breast milk. Ask your doctor before breastfeeding.

During pregnancy, this medicine should be used only when clearly needed. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits.

Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any swelling of your hands, face, lips, eyes, throat or tongue.

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with breathing difficulties.

Do not share this medicine with anyone who has not been prescribed this medicine.

Some patients have serious side effects from this medicine. Ask your pharmacist to show you the information from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and discuss it with you.

Side Effects

The following is a list of some common side effects from this medicine. Please speak with your doctor about what you should do if you experience these or other side effects.

  • nausea and vomiting
  • numbness of mouth or throat
  • sore throat
  • stomach pain

Call your doctor or get medical help right away if you notice any of these more serious side effects:

  • chest pain
  • persistent diarrhea
  • dizziness
  • swelling of the face, mouth, tongue or throat
  • fainting
  • feeling of heat or flushing
  • rapid heartbeat
  • red, burning, or itchy skin
  • shortness of breath
  • difficulty speaking
  • severe stomach or bowel pain
  • difficulty swallowing
  • severe or persistent vomiting

A few people may have an allergic reaction to this medicine. Symptoms can include difficulty breathing, skin rash, itching, swelling, or severe dizziness. If you notice any of these symptoms, seek medical help quickly.
