Corns and Calluses: Home Treatment

Topic Overview

Home treatment may help relieve discomfort from corns or calluses.

  • Rub the callus or corn with a towel or a pumice stone after a shower or bath to take off some of the dead skin and reduce the thickness of the callus or corn. Do not use a pumice stone if you have diabetes or peripheral arterial disease, or if you have poor circulation in your feet.
  • Use doughnut-shaped felt, lamb's wool, or moleskin patches to relieve pressure on the callus or corn.
  • Use lotions and moisturizers to soften the skin. This may also relieve some of the symptoms from corns and calluses.

Never cut corns or calluses. Infection may develop.
