Making Health Care Attainable

Care for all second image

For healthy communities to thrive, health care must be attainable by everyone. Barriers as varied as insurance, finances, language, transit or simply attitudes and perceptions can, singly or together, discourage individuals and families from seeking the preventive, acute or chronic care they need. WellSpan’s dedication to Care for All includes not only reaching out in myriad ways to open doors to care, but also broadening our reach beyond the health care setting and collaborating with partners to bring supports directly into the community.

Over the past three years, WellSpan has advanced health equity by continuing to address disparities and ensure equitable access for all:

  • Language and cultural resources were provided in more than 226,935 WellSpan patient encounters in fiscal year 2022. We additionally expanded access to our language services through the rollout of WellSpan's My Interpretation Assistant (MIA) in urgent care and initial hospital and family practice sites.
  • WellSpan improved its Financial Assistance program to extend financial support to patients earning up to 400% of the federal poverty level (from the previous maximum of 300%). Financial support is also offered via the Healthy Community Network program for uninsured or underinsured patients.
  • We rapidly scaled access to telehealth care, with 323,595 virtual visits conducted in 2022 alone.
  • Our Community Listening Model seeks out the beliefs, advice, and lived experience of community members regarding their health care and applies those learnings to improve our care delivery and design.

In addition to these activities and improvements, WellSpan's longstanding commitment to partner, collaborate, and support safety net providers across our service area offers community members additional entry points to access health care and services.
