Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Are you still taking book donations for the sale?
Because this is our last sale, we will no longer take any donations for the sale. This includes any donations at the York Ice Arena during the sale.

  2. How does pricing work for the book sale?
On the first day of the sale, you will find almost all hardback books priced at $2 and paperbacks at $1. The children's area is priced differently with some books 5 for $1. We also feature a large "Rare Finds" category where books are individually priced. There is also a large media section at the sale with prices generally $1 to $2, and hundreds of pieces of artwork priced from $1 to $25. Admission prices are $5.00 each day for adults 18 and over, $1.00 for 13–17-year-olds, and free for 12 and under. Wristband holders do not pay additional admission on Saturday and Sunday.

  3. What are the prices of books on Saturday and Sunday?
On Saturday, books, media and artwork are half price all day. On Sunday, we will provide all shoppers with boxes (while supplies last) to fill for $5.00 per box. This is a great bargain, and you can stuff the box full of as many books as you can. The boxes are similar size to copy paper boxes or banker boxes measuring approximately 15 x 12 x 10. We ask that all shoppers use our boxes for the $5.00 a box sale.

  4. How do I get a $25 wristband for early admission?
Wristband sales will begin at 10 a.m. at the York Ice Arena. The doors open at noon for wristband shoppers only. This special shopping time runs until 4 PM. After that, you can use your wristband for entrance to the sale all week. Every person over the age of 12 must have a $25 wristband to enter the arena early on Friday.

  5. How is the sale set up?
Books are divided into many different categories and clearly marked with signs. You will also have a map for your use in finding your favorite categories. Examples of some of our categories include:
    • Fiction Hardback and Paperback
    • Mystery Hardback and Paperback
    • Science Fiction

  6. Where do you get your books from?
Our books are donated throughout the year by members of our community. You will find new and used books in all categories. We do not save books from previous sales and start fresh each year with new donations.

  7. Am I able to stack up books while shopping in an area at the sale?
We ask that you only stack books you intend to buy. Stacking will be available at the rink on a first-come, first-served basis. We ask that you bring something to cover your books with and we are not responsible for watching the stacks while you are shopping.

  8. Will you help me load my books after I purchase them?
Our employees and volunteers are not allowed to help lift or load any books you purchased. We do have a small number of handcarts or rolling carts that you may borrow to take to your car with proper ID. We recommend that you bring a cart for your use when loading or borrow one of ours.
