John Porter 2011Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, WellSpan Health

Mr. Porter served as president of Ephrata Community Hospital from 1985 through 2015 and assumed his current role with WellSpan Health in January 2015. He has been active in the healthcare field for more than 30 years as both a consultant and health care facility administrator.

He launched his health care career as a planning analyst with Central Pennsylvania Health System Agency.  He also served as a project coordinator with the Health System Agency before serving as director and then vice president for Planning and Marketing for the Hospital Council of Central Pennsylvania.  He joined WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital as an assistant administrator in 1983.

Mr. Porter is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University with a bacheor’s degree in Health Planning Administration.

Mr. Porter is active in several civic and professional organizations, serving as a member of the Hospital Association of Pennsylvania’s Medical Liability Task Force, a board member of the Ephrata Area Education Foundation, a past member of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations National Committee for Small/Rural Hospitals and the Hospital Advisory Group, a board member and past chairman of Preferred Health Care, a past vice chairman of Berkshire Health Plan, a board member and past chairman of VHA-PA in Pittsburgh, past president of Ephrata Rotary Club, and a past board member of St. Joseph Health Ministries.
