Tobacco Cessation

Becoming tobacco free can literally be a life-changing achievement. Here at WellSpan Health, we understand the decision to quit is the first step in a long path toward a healthier you. That’s why we provide education, self-guided programs and classes to help you reach your goal of a tobacco free lifestyle.


Current Programs

Group cessation classes

WellSpan Health offers the Freedom From Smoking Program®, developed by the American Lung Association for free. Considered the “Gold Standard” in tobacco cessation, this eight-session program is designed to help people quit smoking, fight the addiction and develop a smoke-free lifestyle.

One-on-one counseling

All residents of York and Adams counties are eligible for free, one-on-one tobacco treatment planning sessions. During these sessions, a certified tobacco cessation counselor will:

  • Assess your dependence on nicotine

  • Review strategies and coping skills

  • Develop a tailored “quit plan” specific to your lifestyle

Self-guided program

For those who want to quit on their own, this two-hour program provides individuals with necessary tools that include:

  • Reviewing what tobacco does to the body

  • Discussing approved medications to help quit

  • Helping you create a “quit plan"

  • Providing support

Fast Facts About Tobacco Use

  • Tobacco use may shorten your life by up to 15 years.

  • Smokeless tobacco contains five times the amount of nicotine as cigarettes.

  • Children whose parents use tobacco are four times more likely to start themselves.

  • Smoking one pack per day costs about $6. Quitting now can save you as much as $2,016 a year.

  • 18 percent of adults in Adams County and 21 percent of adults in York County use tobacco.

About the provider search

This search will provide you with WellSpan Medical Group and Northern Lancaster County (Ephrata) Medical Group primary care physicians and specialists. If we don’t have a WellSpan Medical Group physician to meet your criteria, the search will expand to include community physicians who partner with WellSpan Medical Group physicians through the WellSpan Provider Network or provide care to patients on the Medical Staffs of WellSpan’s Hospitals.
