Double Creek Cancelled for June 2

The safety of Double Creek volunteers and participants is our top priority. With this in mind, the decision has been made to cancel this year’s event. We realize the weather may change, however, the impending storms forecasted for the coming days would create unsafe conditions for volunteers setting up for the event as well as participants walking, running and cycling on Saturday. Because of the time needed to prepare for such an event, the event will not be rescheduled in 2018. On behalf of the WellSpan York Health Foundation and the Double Creek planning committee, we thank you for your understanding and continued support to keeping our friends and neighbors healthy. ×

As Double Creek celebrates over a decade of success, we have made some exciting changes to our venue and routes. Double Creek 2018 will start at a new location – John Rudy Park in York. This beautiful park offers us the opportunity to use new routes for both runners, walkers and cyclists. You will experience routes on the Heritage Rail Trail, inside Rudy Park, and on the scenic roads surrounding the park.

Join us for a fun start to summer and raise money for the “Prescription for Caring” fund. We are planning fun “Welcome Summer” activities, including a photo booth, healthy food, and other fun activities for participants of all ages.

Celebrating this long history as York’s Running, Cycling and Walking Event, we welcome participants of all ages. You asked – we listened! We will hold some of our traditional events, and we have added some new opportunities.

Runners - We will offer a 10 mile run along a scenic section of the Heritage Rail Trail. You will run along the Codorus Creek through beautiful wooded areas. You can also register for our 5K route, which will be primarily cross country this year. Not the normal John Rudy Park 5K route! And for our loyal half-marathon runners, you are still able to go the distance and experience our Mega Run.

For those of you who like to cycle and run, we offer our Endurance Challenge. Cycle first and then run our new 10 mile route.

Walkers – This is your opportunity to experience a unique walking route within John Rudy Park. The walk will be on a mix of grass and paved paths. Walk at your leisure since this is not a timed event. Bring your family, friends and co-workers for a fun morning at the park. Walkers will use the 5K route immediately following the start of the 5K event.

Cyclists – Our cycle route experts have been hard at work to create new cycle routes, which also incorporate some of our favorite areas from the past. We will offer a 10-mile, 25-mile, 50-mile and 62-mile course for cyclists. Cyclists are encouraged to start their journey from 7 AM to 8AM. Enjoy a cooler start time, and have plenty of time for rest stops and food at the finish line.

Double Creek needs your help.  Please considering donating a few hours of your time during the event.  Click here to sign up for the position of your choice.

About the Double Creek Event:

Double Creek was established in 2003 to provide support to programs that benefit underinsured families. All money raised will benefit WellSpan’s Prescription for Caring program, which provides medications to uninsured patients, underinsured patients, and those who are insured but are struggling with multiple healthcare issues and life circumstances.

One hundred percent of the proceeds from this event will be used for the Prescription for Caring program. This past year, 90% of those served had $30,000 or less in household income. This pharmacy program provided more than 15,000 free life-sustaining medications to patients without insurance. Your participation in Double Creek helps these patients stay healthy!

      10, 25, 50 or 62 Cycle Routes

Register for Double Creek and come out and enjoy the beautiful roads leading out from John Rudy Park! Bicycle riders will enjoy the scenic and lightly traveled roads with green stretches of farmland, rustic bridges, and country churches.

We want to thank our past cyclist participants for their input to improve the ride. Cyclists can start as early as 7 AM, which allows plenty of time for rest stops and food at the finish before the heat of the day.

Cyclists will leave Rudy Park through the main entrance and continue out on scenic roads that incorporate new routes and still keep some of the historical “Double Creek” route as part of the event. Check out our cue sheets so you can see how we have blended new and old routes. Rest stops will be available along the routes for your rest and comfort.
