Wet conditions may have cancelled play for the 16th Annual Gettysburg Hospital Benefit Tennis Tournament on Saturday, April 30, but not the event’s celebratory spirit at the awards reception that evening. Tournament sponsors, players, and special guests socialized, bid on auction items and enjoyed delicious food, courtesy of reception sponsor, Biggerstaff’s Catering.
Following select remarks, including those by John Rice, representing lead sponsor Rice Fruit Company – in memory of Arthur and Muriel Rice, three of the six senior scholarship award recipients were recognized for their $500 leadership award. Each student read their scholarship essay to the group, emphasizing their personal reflections on how the conference shaped them as a leader.
Present at the reception were Sarah Pagnanelli, Conewago Valley, Grant Sanders, Gettysburg, and Nadia Chilcoat, Littlestown. Other scholarship winners included Kelsey Weaver, Bermudian Springs, Karli Kuhn, Upper Adams, and Kacey Shaffer, Fairfield.
This year’s tournament raised nearly $17,000 in net proceeds which will support the 2016 Young Women’s/Young Men’s Leadership Conference and this year’s six $500 scholarship awards.
