The Temple University Lewis Katz School of Medicine at WellSpan Health campus will feature clinical rotations at WellSpan York Hospital, WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital, Apple Hill Surgery Center, and WellSpan Medical Group outpatient practices in the York area. WellSpan’s exceptional patient care network provides an outstanding framework for building clinical skills and learning to care for diverse complex patients in a variety of settings, from urban, to suburban, to rural locations. WellSpan York Hospital
WellSpan York Hospital is a 593-bed, high-acuity referral center for York City, York County, and the surrounding area, with a Level 1 Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center with endovascular neurosurgery capabilities, a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and a Chest Pain and Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) Center. WellSpan York Hospital is known for its world-class heart care. The hospital hosts a Level 3 Adult Epilepsy Center, and referral centers for robotic and complex surgeries. It is one of only two hospitals in the world and remains the only hospital in the United States to have an in-lab 4DCT imaging modality used to support complex cardiac care.
The hospital has more than 92,000 annual emergency department visits, 32,000+ admissions, 3,100 deliveries, and 17,000 surgeries annually.
WellSpan York Hospital also hosts eight Residency Training Programs in Dentistry, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Orthopedic Surgery, Psychiatry, and Surgery.
In addition, the hospital hosts Fellowship Programs in Cardiology, Emergency Ultrasound, Hand Surgery, Podiatry/Advanced Foot and Ankle Reconstructive Surgery, Sports Medicine, and Surgical Critical Care, with a Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine Fellowship starting soon.
With over 100 years of Residency/Fellowship training experience and over 200 Residents and Fellows, the hospital is wonderful starting point for post-medical school specialty clinical education. These programs also help to provide a robust learning environment for medical students at the campus.
An ongoing $427 million Surgical and Critical Care Tower expansion project will add brand new, state-of-the-art operating rooms and hybrid operating room spaces. This project is on target for completion in 2027.
WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital
A 73 bed facility in York, PA, offering acute inpatient rehabilitation services, as well as advanced orthopedic, spine, and neurosurgical procedures. This facility is located in a WellSpan health campus, along with the WellSpan Women’s Center and Women’s Imaging Services, the WellSpan Heart and Vascular Center, the WellSpan York Cancer Center, and Apple Hill Surgical Center.
Apple Hill Surgical Center
This surgery center is a combination of outpatient practices, an ambulatory surgery center, and the WellSpan York Cancer Center. Apple Hill Surgical Center is located on the same health campus as WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital, WellSpan Women’s Center and Women’s Imaging Services, and the WellSpan Heart and Vascular Center, and provides a variety of learning environments for students.
