AHA Regional Executive Michael Draine presented the award to WellSpan Vice President and WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital President John Massimilla and the leadership team on Nov. 21.
“The AHA is proud to recognize WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital for 75 years of membership and for its continued commitment to serving the Franklin County community,” said AHA Regional Executive Michael Draine. “We thank its leaders, medical staff, caregivers and other colleagues for providing a full range of medical care that is tailored to meet each patient’s needs.”
WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital is a 274-bed hospital located in the heart of Franklin County serving the community with leading-edge inpatient, outpatient and emergent care services. WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital is noted for offering advanced technologies and a full range of medical services. These include award-winning heart and stroke care, a cardiac catheterization lab, a family birthing unit and Level II NICU, inpatient rehabilitation, a wound center with hyperbaric oxygen therapy and surgical services, as well as the recent expansion of robotic surgery performed at the hospital that allows the hospital to perform minimally invasive lung biopsies.
A testament to the high-quality care provided, the hospital has been named as one of America's Best Hospitals by Healthgrades and named among the top 1% nationally based on patient mortality and complication rates.
The hospital, named by Becker's Hospital Review as one of the 100 great community hospitals in the country, is also committed to training the next generation of health care professionals, creating educational opportunities that include a family medicine residency program beginning in 2025.
“WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital’s commitment to serving the community has made it the most comprehensive local health care provider and largest employer in the county, and that’s built upon a strong sense of pride from our team members,” said Niki Hinckle, senior vice president of WellSpan’s West Region.
“Many of the individuals providing the expert care within the walls of our hospital have been part of this community for generations, and we care for our patients as if they were our family. It’s that level of respect for our patients and personalization in what we do that makes us stand out,” added Massimilla.
The hospital opened in 1895 to care for children. WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital is a part of the WellSpan system of nine hospitals and more than 250 care locations across central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland.
