Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:
As a young student, I always felt I had an aptitude for biology as well as a natural curiosity for technology. In choosing a career, I wanted to be able to help people and work in a challenging field. These factors led to my interest in medicine and, in particular, radiology. After thirty years as a radiologist, I find that I continue to be positively challenged by the field. I am rewarded daily by helping patients as well as fellow professionals who are seeking answers to complex health questions. Technology in radiology is rapidly changing; I remain intrigued and enlightened by the latest developments.
What I want my patients to know about me:
As a general radiologist, I prefer to focus my attention on the exam in front of me and give the study the appropriate time it needs to be interpreted. I have found that the longer you look, the more you see. I am highly motivated to come to the correct diagnosis with each radiographic study. To solve complex challenging cases, I take the extra time to consult and collaborate with my fellow professional radiologists.
I find my subspecialty area of mammography very fulfilling as I am able to interact with patients to help make their examination more understandable and less anxiety-provoking.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
Between college and medical school, I was a ski instructor and professional ski racer. I continue to enjoy skiing with my wife and four children. I believe in physical fitness, and I work out regularly and golf competitively. I also like to fish and spend time at the beach. Thanks to my children, I have developed a fondness and appreciation for music, theater, dance and family games, especially Monopoly. Finally, our family has a 3 ½ lb toy poodle named Cosette!
