Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:
Many of my family members are in the field of medicine. This naturally led to more exposure to this sphere in the form of conversations and experiences. I found this profession to be a wonderful opportunity to serve and make a difference not only to those who are treated but also to their entire family. Being interested in science and the function of body, I was drawn to pursue a career in medicine. The opportunity of patient care, research, along with teaching makes me enjoy medicine.
What I want my patients to know about me:
I am an academic hospitalist at WellSpan York Hospital. I work with residents (doctors-in-training) and supervise them. I feel that the field of medicine is both an art and a science. While knowing what to do medically from a scientific evidence point of view, we also need to pay attention to the art of medicine, which includes the way we treat others. I believe being gentle, kind, compassionate and respectful to those we care for supports a faster healing process. I try to do the best I can to achieve this and work with residents to implement it to the best possible extent.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
Almost everyone’s life is busy, and I too have a fair share of it! I am married. I have two young kids whose activities, school work, and play keep me busy. I practice heartfulness meditation and have conducted various workshops and research projects related to this practice. I feel it has offered me a great benefit in maintaining a state of inner calmness and tranquility while going through the ups and downs of life.
