Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:
I have always wanted to be a nurse, from at least kindergarten, where I ran around wearing a "Dr. Kildare" white tunic top! I started my career as an LPN, became a diploma RN, earned a master's degree in nursing and went on to become a nurse practitioner. As you can see, education is extremely important to me. With each level of education, I was able to provide a higher level of care to my patients. There was no specific event that led me to nursing, it has just always been who I am. If I can help someone through a difficult time, or keep them healthy - physically, emotionally and/or psychologically - I feel as thought I have contributed something good to society.
What I want my patients to know about me:
I can't imagine doing anything other than psychiatric nursing. I have worked in Trauma ICU and staff development, helped to develop our electronic medical record and taught nursing students. Psychiatric nursing is where my heart lives. I will do my absolute best for each patient and their family. It is my privilege to care for you.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
I love to be with family and friends. My spare time is spent reading and crocheting. My goal is to ensure every homeless person in York has a hat and scarf to help warm them during winter.
