Traditional open gynecologic surgery – using a large incision for access to the uterus and surrounding anatomy – has been the standard approach to many benign (non-cancerous) gynecologic procedures. However, with open surgery you may experience significant pain, trauma, a long recovery process, and potential damage to nearby organs and nerves.
For complex hysterectomies and other benign gynecologic procedures, robotic-assisted surgery with the da Vinci® Surgical System may be the most effective, and least invasive, treatment option. In-Office and Hospital Procedures
We offer certain procedures in the office setting, which allows you the convenience of staying close to home for your procedure. When required, we perform other procedures in a hospital setting.
Evaluation and Management of Abnormal PAP Smears
As part of preventative women's care, WellSpan gynecologists recommend that most women have routine PAP smears. It can be concerning if this test comes back abnormal, but we are here to help. When needed, gynecologists can perform procedures including a colposcopy to more closely examine your cervix, vagina and vulva for signs of disease. When needed, we can also perform in-office or same-day surgical procedures including LEEP (loop electrosurgical excision procedure) and cone biopsy, which are two methods of removing abnormal tissue from the cervix.

Surgical Scheduling Nurses to Streamline Your Care
Our office team features a surgical scheduling nurse to help you throughout the surgery process, including support with your insurance provider, working through qualifying for short-term disability and time off work, and other details that can slip through the cracks without an experienced team on your side.
Preparing for Surgery
It is important to prepare for surgery properly to reduce the chance at infection. You should receive a tool kit and instructions at the time your surgery is scheduled. The preparation begins the day before your surgery, so please review the video here and instructions early.
