Primary care providers help to provide ongoing medical care to athletes. They often provide on-field coverage at sporting events and work closely with specialty providers to manage severe injuries. In addition, primary care providers are able to assess and treat minor sports-related injuries.
Having a primary care provider to turn to for managing chronic conditions such as obesity, asthma, high blood pressure and diabetes is important to ensure that athletes are healthy enough to participate in athletics. In addition, they are able to screen athletes for high risk cardiac conditions at pre-participation physicals. WellSpan Sports Medicine works closely with WellSpan's primary care providers to manage the ongoing health of athletes.
WellSpan has 27 family medicine and internal medicine practices in Adams and York counties with more than 110 providers.
