Inpatient Care

For individuals requiring inpatient care, WellSpan York Hospital features separate adult, geriatric and adolescent units for intense, short-term treatment and assessment. Our inpatient units are designed to help stabilize patients so they may move on to less restrictive outpatient care as quickly as possible. Our professionals provide consultation for patients at WellSpan York Hospital, WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital, Hanover Hospital and area nursing homes.

When you come to your first appointment, it is important to arrive early to complete necessary paperwork. A standard assessment will be completed focusing on presenting symptoms, mental health and substance abuse history, family history and identification of additional life stressors. At the end of your first session, you and your treatment provider will discuss your goals for treatment and recommendations will be made regarding level of care (outpatient, intensive outpatient or inpatient), type of therapy (individual or family) and frequency of treatment.

If you're in need of crisis counseling, please call (800) 673-2496 at any time of the day or night. You may also speak to a crisis counselor face-to-face. Located in WellSpan York Hospital's Emergency Department, the Crisis Intervention Team addresses between 2,500 and 3,000 emergencies each month.

With locations across York and Adams counties, WellSpan's expert team of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses and mental health professionals combine efforts to provide the most appropriate level of behavioral health care for people of all ages: children, adolescents and adults.
