Overseeing patient care at WellSpan York Hospital's Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU), our physicians and advanced practice clinicians (APC) are committed to providing babies with the highest quality of care and service.
Communication with parents is very important to us. During your child’s stay in the NICU we
will make every attempt to communicate with you on a regular basis. Often this will be in person while you are visiting in the unit. In other cases, it will be on the telephone when you call in. Occasionally, we will call you at home with an update.
In many situations, the NICU nursing staff will be your first line of communication and will be able to answer many of your questions. However, if there is something specific that you want to discuss with your physician or APC, please let your nurse know . She will arrange for contact with us if we are not present at the time.
Please do not hesitate to ask questions. All of your questions are important to us and we will do what it takes to help you understand your baby’s medical issues and progress.
We understand that this can be a stressful time in your life; however, we have found that the better you understand your baby’s medical issues, the less stress you will feel as a parent. Rest assured that we will help to put you at ease as much as possible.
