Botox: When muscles in the face contract, they cause wrinkles to form in the skin next to the body of the muscle. Over time, these wrinkles can make permanent etchings in the skin. The goal of botox therapy is to relax these muscles, minimize movement of the muscles and therefore reduce wrinkling of the skin.
Juvederm is a filler made from substances naturally occurring in the human body. As we age, our skin loses volume and elasticity that can cause sagging. Injecting these substances under the skin can fill in lines, shadows and some scars created from acne. Because it is a substance our body manufactures, allergic reactions are rare. It is absorbed by the body over several months and treatments can last from 6 to 12 months.
Injectable treatment is not permanent. Botox injections last 3 to 4 months. Fillers such as Juvederm last 6 to 12 months. The length of effect is dependent on many factors such as your metabolism, the product used and the area that was treated. When botox is used in conjunction with fillers, the filler treatment can last longer.
