Pathway to Excellence

PTE Logo  In July 2013, the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) awarded WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital Pathway to Excellence status. Similar to ANCC's Magnet Program, Pathway to Excellence is designed for smaller hospitals and focuses on the importance of a positive professional environment for nurses and its impact on the quality of care provided to patients. WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital is only the fourth hospital in Pennsylvania to receive this recognition.

Breast Imaging Center for Excellence

WellSpan Imaging, a service of WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital, has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR recognizes the hospital as a breast imaging center that has earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy and breast ultrasound, including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.

Performance Improvement Leader

In 2007 and 2008, Thomson Reuters, a health care information organization, recognized WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital for being one of 100 hospitals that made the greatest progress in improving hospital-wide performance over a five-year period. The hospital provided excellent patient care while improving its community outreach services and profitability. The study rated hospitals on eight factors: patient mortality, medical complications, patient safety, length of stay, expenses, profitability, cash-to-debt ratio and use of evidence-based medicine.

APEX Awards Winner

WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital received two 2011 VHA Achieving Patient Care Excellence (APEX) awards for prevention of catheter-associated blood and urinary tract infections. The hospital had zero catheter-associated blood infections from June 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011, and zero urinary tract infections from Dec. 1, 2010, to June 30, 2011.

ACR Accredited PET

The American College of Radiology has accredited WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital in positron emission tomography (PET). PET imaging results provide physicians with high defined, 3-D images of form and function inside a patient’s body.
