WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital hosts Brain Injury Awareness Pop-up Art Show

Tuesday, March 28, 2017

WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital hosted this month a special event to help give voice to those impacted by brain injury.

The Brain Injury Awareness Pop-up Art Show, held March 21 during Brain Injury Awareness Month, showcased community resources, patient and family education and various artwork by patients, caregivers and WellSpan staff.

Also featured was traveling art from the Unmasking Brain Injury group, which gives survivors an outlet and the means to educate others on what it’s like to live with a brain injury.

These decorated masks were intended to inspire interested WellSpan patients to express their experiences through painting masks of their own, and WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital’s Inspire Brain Injury and Stroke Support Group did just that later in the evening.

The masks they created are being incorporated into Unmasking Brain Injury’s displays and will now help to inspire and educate others.

As the first hospital in southcentral Pennsylvania to receive a prestigious accreditation from CARF International for inpatient brain injury rehabilitation, WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital is uniquely positioned to meet the community’s need to provide specialized care to brain injury patients.

The accreditation represents the highest level that can be awarded by CARF to an organization and is a recognized mark of excellence for a program’s quality of care.
WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital opened in 2012 at WellSpan’s Apple Hill Health Campus in York Township.

The state-of-the-art facility offers advanced orthopedic, spine and neurological surgery procedures, as well as both inpatient and specialized outpatient rehabilitation services.
