Research and Clinical Trials

Advances in medicine and science are the result of new ideas and approaches developed through research. Cancer clinical trials are carefully designed studies conducted to determine optimal treatment methods and improve the quality of life for cancer patients. Clinical trials also address the issue of cancer prevention.

The York Cancer Center participates in numerous national cooperative trial groups including the:

• National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP),
• Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG),
• American College of Surgeons Oncology Group (ACOSOG),
• Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG),
• Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG),
• Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG), and
• Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB).

We also enroll our patients in industry-based trials.  This offers our patients the opportunity to participate in leading edge clinical research. Our affiliation with Johns Hopkins Oncology Center also broadens the types of trials available to our patients.
