WellSpan Philanthropic Societies

Samuel Small Society

The Samuel Small Society was started to honor and recognize individuals who have remembered WellSpan Health or one of its entities in their will, estate plans, charitable gift annuities, or charitable trusts.

The Society was named after Samuel Small who in 1880 initiated the idea of a hospital in York. If not for him, WellSpan Health might not exist as it does today.

If you have included WellSpan Health in your financial planning, we want to thank you now by including you in the Samuel Small Society. It is not necessary for you to reveal the extent of your commitment.

In addition, Samuel Small Society members will be invited to an annual recognition dinner and will receive special estate planning mailings. For more information, contact the Foundation Office at (717) 851-3595.

The 1880 Society

Today's healthcare systems face many challenges: providing free care for the uninsured, a demand for the latest technology, and skyrocketing malpractice fees to name just a few.  Donations to The 1880 Society will support the provision of quality, accessible healthcare for those who call York and Adams counties home.

Named in honor of the year York Hospital was founded, The 1880 Society is a special annual giving program of the York Health Foundation.  It is a principle source of gifts form individuals - patients, friends and others - to be used for current initiatives and to maintain York Hospital's high standard of access and care.

Membership in The 1880's Society is open to friends of the York-based entities of WellSpan Health who contribute to the York Health Foundation the sum of $10,000 or more payable over a period not to exceed 10 years.  This gift may be directed to a specific department, a York-based entity (such as York Hospital or VAN Home Care and Hospice) to an outreach program, for capital improvement, scholarships, a patient help fund, research or continuing education.  It may also be designated simply for the growth and continued development of the York-based entities of WellSpan Health.
