Emergency Services
WellSpan Health provides a wide variety of emergency services for our community. From prehospital care with our Advanced Life Support units, to our busy Emergency Departments, to our Level 1 Regional Resource Trauma Center at York Hospital, to the inpatient units of Gettysburg Hospital and York Hospital, our staff and physicians are ready to care for you or your family during an emergency. Computerized patient tracking and medical records systems allow our Emergency Departments to provide cutting-edge care.
Advanced Life Support Units These mobile units are staffed by paramedics and/or prehospital registered nurses (RNs). Able to respond to a wide range of illnesses or injuries, Medic 28, based at Gettysburg Hospital, and Medic 97, based at York Hospital, provide life-saving care in the field. Medic 98 is a jointly staffed unit co-sponsored by York Hospital and Memorial Hospital.
Emergency Departments The Emergency Departments at Gettysburg Hospital and York Hospital are available 24 hours a day to care for ill or injured residents in our area. Dedicated nurses, physicians and other staff members provide acute care for a wide variety of conditions. The physicians and staff of the Emergency Departments work with our Advanced Life Support units and other ambulance units to coordinate prehospital and hospital-based care.
In addition, the Emergency Department at York Hospital hosts a residency training program for graduate physicians, and a wide variety of training experiences for nurses, paramedics, medical students and other health professionals. Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) and Developing Options for Violent Emergencies (DOVE) patient care and education teams are also based at York Hospital. Comprehensive Crisis Intervention and psychiatry services are also available 24 hours a day. This commitment to patient-centered care and to the education of tomorrow's health care providers allows us to continually improve and focus our patient care efforts.
