Women's Heart ProgramsTaking to Heart the Special Needs of WomenCardiovascular disease, which includes heart disease and stroke, is the leading health threat to American women over the age of 40, and claims the lives of more females each year than all forms of cancer combined. Recent medical research has proven that women's hearts are different when it comes to the diagnosis and treatment of heart problems. In fact, women are more likely to die from a first heart attack or to have a second attack, and will often delay seeking treatment when symptoms occur. Recognizing the importance of addressing this major health issue, both the Gettysburg Hospital Heart Center and the York Hospital Heart Center offer a Women's Heart Program especially for the unique needs of women. These programs provide prevention and educational services for women who are at increased risk for cardiovascular disease or women who have known or suspected disease. Our nurse educator evaluates each woman for risk factors so that an individualized plan of care can be designed to prevent a first heart attack or further progression of existing heart disease. Comprehensive women's heart risk assessments are offered through the Gettysburg Hospital Women's Heart Program and the York Hospital Women's Heart Program. Additional ResourcesThe Women's Heart Programs provide additional resources for you that include educational programs, consultations and other resources. If you have further questions, in Gettysburg please call (717) 337-4164 and in York please call (717) 851-6000. |
